Law enforcement underpins effective park and forestry management and is seen as a necessary and primary approach to wildlife and habitat threat abatement. Accordingly, park management agencies need adequate numbers of well trained staff to implement law enforcement, as well as undertake other complimentary biodiversity management activities such as ecological monitoring, tourism management, and community outreach programs. Rangers are the only human shield standing between poachers and Uganda’s iconic species and wildlife landscapes. Rangers stands fearlessly on frontline protecting wildlife, wildlife habitat led as well as surrounding communities from wildlife dangers.
We support the parks and forestry authorities to undertake patrols, monitoring operations and other wildlife related emergencies. Uganda Wildlife Authority alone has over 2,000 rangers deployed in their 10 National Parks; 12 Wildlife reserves; 5 Community Wildlife Management Areas; and 13 Wildlife Sanctuaries and these need to be operating at 100% capacity to combat increasing poaching and other emergencies like law enforcement operations in areas highly vulnerable to wildlife crime.
